Running Brook Vineyard and Winery was founded in 1998 by Pedro Teixeira and Manuel Morais out of a vision to produce top quality wines that will make New Englanders proud and satisfy their palates.
Owner and Winemaker
Dr. Teixeira graduated from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1987. Having spent most of his childhood in the Azores, Portugal, and later in California he caught the grape bug. This condition was exacerbated when he moved to Rhode Island and met his patient, now partner, Manuel Morais. They visited many vineyards and wineries and decided to grow Vitis Vinifera grapes and produce premium wines in Southeastern New England.
Mr. Morais was born and raised in the Azores, Portugal. One of his fondest memories as a child was going with his father to the vineyard. By the age of thirteen he began grafting for his father and soon the older viticulturists in town began to notice his talent for grafting. Before long, he was grafting for the whole town. In 1975, Mr. Morais was one of the first in New England to start a vineyard. He invented vineyard pruning style for cool viticultural regions called “tall grafts”.
